Doorstep Scams

Following two rogue trader reports in North Ayrshire in recent weeks (West Kilbride and Irvine), a reminder to be vigilant about who you choose to answer your door to.

Illegitimate callers often offer you a service you really don't need. Typically, it may be that the doorstep caller has noticed something about your property that needs work - roof, guttering etc.

Stop Challenge Protect

Stop: Unexpected knock at your door. Do you need to answer?
Challenge: Having heard the claim of a fix needed to your house, close the door and check with a professional you trust - "before" agreeing to any work.
Protect - Feeling pressured into paying upfront? It is okay to say no, and close the door.

Call 999 if you feel threatened or in danger.
Call the police non-emergency number 101 if you’re not in immediate danger, but want to report an incident.
