THEFT AND RECOVERY OF QUAD – 3 males arrested

On 13/09/24 police were contacted by a local farmer from Auchengray, Lanark, to report that his quad bike had been stolen from a shed on his farm and he had been made aware of the theft by the tracking company from the tracker fitted to the quad bike.

The vehicle was eventually tracked to Fauldhouse in West Lothian where a vehicle that had been travelling with the stolen quad bike, was stopped and the 3 males within arrested.

Tools were found within the vehicle including bolt cutters.

The stolen quad bike was subsequently traced by police in a deep wooded area in Fauldhouse.

This incident is a good example of fitting trackers to farm machinery and vehicles to enable them to be recovered and handed back to the owner.

In recent months Police Scotland have seen an increase in thefts of quad bikes and all terrain vehicles. As can be seen with the above incident, the persons involved in the commission of these crimes do not recognise boundaries and are travelling all over the country to commit these crimes. Please see below some tips to help secure your property.

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR QUAD BIKE OR ATV:

• Park as close to your premises as possible, preferably out of sight from nearby roads.

• Remove keys when not in use.

• Fit wheel clamps and/or locking posts and consider an alarm.

• Park larger vehicles in front of access doors to prevent easy access.

• Mark or customise your property so it is easily identifiable. This can deter thieves and assist recovery if they are stolen.

 • Consider tracking devices for high value vehicles and machinery.
