Illegal Use Of Motorcycles, E-Bikes and E-Scooters |

|
We have received multiple reports regarding the use of motorcycles, e-bikes, and e-scooters in your area. Your local Community Officers and Roads Policing teams would like to remind the public that operating unregistered motorbikes on roads or in public spaces is both illegal and hazardous.
E-Bike Regulations: E-bikes are legally permitted on public roads only if they meet specific criteria. These include:
The maximum power output must not exceed 250 watts.
Vehicles that exceed these limits are classified as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act. Consequently, riders of such vehicles must:
Wear an approved helmet.
Non-compliance with these legal requirements may result in enforcement action under the Road Traffic Act.
E-Scooter Regulations: E-scooters are not allowed on public roads, pavements, or other public spaces, as they do not meet the necessary legal standards. Their use is permitted only on private land with the landowner’s consent. Any non-compliant e-bike or e-scooter found on public roads is liable to be seized.
Operating vehicles that fail to meet these legal standards poses significant risks to riders, other road users, and pedestrians. If you own an e-bike or e-scooter, please ensure it adheres to the legal requirements. Otherwise, refrain from using it on public roads to avoid penalties and safeguard public safety.

Important Reminder: We strongly advise members of the public not to put themselves at risk by attempting to stop vehicles or engaging in confrontations.
If you have information about individuals using these vehicles illegally or dangerously, please contact Police Scotland or Crimestoppers / Fearless – Giving information anonymously | Crimestoppers or 0800 555 111
